Static Grounding Clamps & Bonding Clamps
K78160A Clamp
STS static grounding clamps, also known as static earthing clamps, and bonding clamps use carbide teeth that bite through paint and corrosion for a reliable metal-to-metal connection, available as individual clamps or complete grounding assemblies.
This Ground Clamp is made from cast aluminum since non-ferrous metals will not generate a spark when struck. Its heavy-duty clamping force and unique stainless steel binding points will ensure proper connection without slipping off the surface it is clamped to. Commonly used with tanker trucks, railcars, barges, and large vats. It is rated to be used in temperature down to -40°F (-40°C). The K78160ASRS model includes a strain release feature in case the operator forgets to detach the clamp prior to the vehicle’s departure.

StaticMag™
The StaticMag is a magnetic grounding clamp, also called a magnetic static earthing clamp, that attaches to ferrous metal without fasteners for a fast grounding connection. It is an alternative to traditional plier-type grounding clamps, designed for drums and totes that require static grounding but do not have a reliable means to temporarily attach a clamp.
How it works
- Compact, ergonomic design that attaches to a flat or curved surface.
- Sharp stainless steel connection points penetrate paint or corrosion on ferrous surfaces to ensure a less than 5 ohm resistance path to earth ground.
- Strong magnetic pull force keeps the clamp in place on the surface.
- Patented switchable magnetic technology turns the magnetic attraction on and off with the turn of a knob, so removal and stowage are easy and safe.

Compatibility
The StaticMag is fully compatible with the STS 300 Ground Monitoring System where visual indication and control system integration are needed. Compatibility with other grounding systems may be possible, and retrofitting clamp-type grounding systems is simple. It is available with coiled or straight ground cable. The STS 300 manual lists the StaticMag IP as part SM3-135IP and a StaticMag Holster Kit as part RK-19.
Compatible products
- STS 300 Ground Monitoring System
- Coil Cable and Straight Cable
- Other drum and tote clamps: VUD Clamp, REB Clamp
FAQ
Does the StaticMag work on stainless steel or aluminum containers?
The StaticMag attaches to ferrous metal. For other surfaces, consider a plier-type clamp such as the VUD or REB.
How do I remove it?
Turn the knob to switch the magnetic attraction off, then lift the clamp away.
Can I use it with my existing STS 300?
Yes. The StaticMag is fully compatible with STS 300 Electronic Indicating Ground Assemblies, and retrofitting clamp-type systems is simple.

REB Clamp
The REB clamp (part number REB-IP) is a small, lightweight die-cast aluminum clamp for grounding and bonding small containers, drums, totes, machinery and personnel. A heavy gauge spring and stainless steel points help the clamp penetrate paint or corrosion and create a secure bond to the bare metal. It is available on its own or with an STS grounding cable, and it is a clamp option for the STS 300 Ground Monitoring System.
Where it is used
STS lists the REB for drums and totes. Its small size suits container filling and equipment bonding in plants such as chemical processing, grain and powder processing and food and beverage.
Specifications
| Part number | REB-IP |
| Body | Die-cast aluminum |
| Spring | Heavy gauge |
| Contact points | Stainless steel |
| Jaw opening | 0.75 in |
| Used in | Drums, totes |
With an STS 300
Connected to an STS 300, the REB becomes part of a continuously monitored ground path: green means a proper ground is made, red means the ground is interrupted, and the dry contacts can stop the transfer. In the STS 300 ordering guide, the REB is clamp code RB. When the system is not in use, the REB-IP can be stowed on the STS Clamp Stowage Plate or Multipoint Clamp Stowage Plate.
Compatible products
- STS 300 Ground Monitoring System
- Coil Cable and Straight Cable
- Clamp Stowage Plate
- Other drum and tote options: VUD Clamp, StaticMag
FAQ
Can the REB clamp be used for personnel bonding?
Yes. STS lists personnel among the REB’s grounding and bonding uses, along with small containers, drums, totes and machinery.
How does it get through paint?
A heavy gauge spring and stainless steel points help the clamp penetrate paint or corrosion to bond to bare metal.
Can I order the REB with a cable?
Yes. Choose no cable or one of the STS coil or straight cable options when ordering.

CB-250IP
The CB-250IP is a bronze C-clamp with a 2.50 in opening and an isolated point, designed for use on rail cars and marine vessels. Ground cables are fastened to the body of the clamp using snug-fit, vibration-dampening fasteners. It is available on its own or with an STS grounding cable, and it is a clamp option for the STS 300 Ground Monitoring System.
Where it is used
STS lists the CB-250IP for railcars, tanker trucks and barges. For related applications, see rail car fill stations and marine terminals.

Clamp and cable together
A clamp makes the physical connection, but it cannot show whether that connection stays sound during the transfer. A ground monitoring system such as the STS 300 Ground Monitoring System verifies the ground path continuously, shows green or red status, and can stop pumps or close valves if the ground is lost. Read more about static ground monitoring systems for flammable and combustible materials.
Compatible products
- Coil Cable and Straight Cable (both offered with the G40 Bronze clamp)
- Other tanker and railcar clamps: K78160A, K78160ASRS, CB-250IP
- Dual Ball Connector
FAQ
Why bronze?
The G40 is cast with non-sparking bronze. STS uses non-sparking materials for its clamps; its aluminum clamps rely on the fact that non-ferrous metals will not generate a spark when struck.
Can I order the G40 with a cable?
Yes. Choose no cable or one of the STS coil or straight cable options when ordering.
What other bronze clamp does STS offer?
The CB-250IP is a bronze C-clamp with a 2.50 in opening, designed for rail cars and marine vessels.
Is the G40 the same as a bronze ground rod clamp?
No. A bronze ground rod clamp (often called an acorn clamp) permanently fastens a conductor to a driven ground rod as part of an electrical grounding system. The G40 is a portable static grounding clamp: it is attached to a tanker truck, rail car or barge before a transfer and removed afterward, carrying static charge through an STS grounding cable to a verified ground.

VUD Clamp
The VUD clamp (part number VUD-IP) is a plier-type aluminum grounding clamp designed specifically for drum and tote grounding and bonding. This thinner style clamp has only two stainless steel points and fits over the small lip of a drum or tote. It is available on its own or with an STS grounding cable, and it is a clamp option for the STS 300 Ground Monitoring System.
Where it is used
Drum and tote filling is common in chemical processing, food and beverage and other plants that handle flammable liquids. The VUD’s thinner profile is made to fit over the small lip of a drum or tote.
Specifications
| Part number | VUD-IP |
| Type | Plier-type |
| Body | Aluminum |
| Contact points | Two stainless steel points |
| Jaw opening | 1 in |
| Used in | Drums, totes |
With an STS 300
When the VUD is connected to an STS 300, the system continuously checks the ground path through the clamp. The green light shows a proper ground, the red light shows an interrupted ground, and the dry contacts can stop the fill if the ground is lost. In the STS 300 ordering guide, the VUD is clamp code VD.
Compatible products
- STS 300 Ground Monitoring System
- Coil Cable and Straight Cable
- Other drum and tote options: REB Clamp, StaticMag
FAQ
VUD or REB for drums?
Both are used on drums and totes. The VUD is a thinner plier-type clamp with two stainless steel points made to fit over the small lip of a drum or tote. The REB is a small die-cast clamp with a heavy gauge spring, also used for small containers, machinery and personnel.
Can I order the VUD with a cable?
Yes. Choose no cable or one of the STS coil or straight cable options when ordering.
