Description
The G40 Bronze Grounding Clamp (part number G40-IP) is cast from non-sparking bronze and has two attached stainless steel points. It is designed for grounding tanker trucks and rail cars, and it is available on its own or with an STS grounding cable.
Where it is used
STS lists the G40 for railcars, tanker trucks and barges. These are the loading and unloading operations covered on the STS rail car fill station, petroleum refining and marine terminal pages, and in the guide on how to ground a tanker truck.

Clamp and cable together
A clamp makes the physical connection, but it cannot show whether that connection stays sound during the transfer. A ground monitoring system such as the STS 300 Ground Monitoring System verifies the ground path continuously, shows green or red status, and can stop pumps or close valves if the ground is lost. Read more about static ground monitoring systems for flammable and combustible materials.

FAQ
Why bronze?
The G40 is cast with non-sparking bronze. STS uses non-sparking materials for its clamps; its aluminum clamps rely on the fact that non-ferrous metals will not generate a spark when struck.
Can I order the G40 with a cable?
Yes. Choose no cable or one of the STS coil or straight cable options when ordering.
What other bronze clamp does STS offer?
The CB-250IP is a bronze C-clamp with a 2.50 in opening, designed for rail cars and marine vessels.
Is the G40 the same as a bronze ground rod clamp?
No. A bronze ground rod clamp (often called an acorn clamp) permanently fastens a conductor to a driven ground rod as part of an electrical grounding system. The G40 is a portable static grounding clamp: it is attached to a tanker truck, rail car or barge before a transfer and removed afterward, carrying static charge through an STS grounding cable to a verified ground.
