What the strain release does
On the STS clamp line, the strain release feature is offered on the K78160ASRS Clamp. It is there in case the operator forgets to detach the clamp before the vehicle departs. Because the strain release is the part that takes that load, it is worth keeping a replacement kit on hand.
When to replace it
Replace the strain release hardware when it is damaged, worn, or no longer secured to the cable. The maintenance schedule in the STS 300 manual includes checking that the clamp strain release is secured to the cable at the proper length, where applicable.
