The Grounding Clamp with Strain Release Repair Kit (part number RK-2) is the repair kit for the STS K78160ASRS aluminum grounding clamp. It includes contact points, all electrical connection hardware, and the strain release cable and hardware, so the clamp and its strain release can be rebuilt in one step.
About the K78160ASRS clamp
The K78160ASRS is cast from aluminum, a non-ferrous metal that will not generate a spark when struck, with stainless steel binding points that hold the clamp on the surface without slipping. It is rated for use in temperatures down to -40°F (-40°C) and is commonly used on tanker trucks, railcars, barges and large vats. It adds a strain release feature in case the operator forgets to detach the clamp before the vehicle departs.
When to use this kit
Use RK-2 when the clamp’s contact points are worn or corroded, when connection hardware is damaged, or when the strain release cable needs replacing. The STS 300 installation and operating manual (PDF) maintenance schedule includes checking that clamp points are not worn and are free from corrosion, that the clamp cable is correctly terminated and secured at the clamp, and that the strain release is secured to the cable at the proper length. If only the strain release needs attention, the Strain Release Repair Kit (RK-4) is a smaller option.
